(Source: MCN Healthcare Inc) With most media sites still debating the issues surrounding the Ebola virus a new issue surfaced this past week - a young female adult with terminal brain cancer moved to Oregon so that she can legally engage in suicide. To be eligible for assisted suicide within Oregon, the law states that the patient must be a capable adult, live in the state, and have a medical diagnosis that will cause death within six months. Oregon is one of five states in which some form of "assistance with dying" is permitted. Washington, Montana, Vermont, and New Mexico allow patients to seek help from physicians with ending life.
